The best part is that I will never have to laser them off

In case you didn't know this, I'm a graphic designer at a small Chicagoland firm; and work Monday-Thursdays, unless we're up against a project deadline and they need me to come in on Friday (which only happens a handful of times through the year because we're a well-oiled machine, and good at getting our work done). I love the people I work for and I would be an idiot to ever complain about my job because there simply is nothing to whine about. The commute is even an unheard of 7-minute drive from where I live, which was a welcome change after commuting over an hour each way in the jobs of years past.

Last week, because we were closed Christmas Eve and Day, I only had to go into the office on Wednesday and Thursday. According to my inbox (and thanks to the best business owners/bosses on the planet), I have the same rough schedule next week as well:

The monotony of another 5-day holiday weekend. Sigh.

I'm going to try really hard to deal with this terrible, horrifying news. While I sit around crying and yelling to the heavens: "WHY, GOD, WHY?", I thought you should see the only thing getting me through these hard times:

Maybe they're not your flavor like they are mine. If they are, though; and if you are having a hard time dealing with looking into your future and wondering how you'll manage long work-weeks, you can score your own pair at Zappos.com

Even though I love the art and history of the tattoo, I am thankful I opted to love my skin-as-it-is a lot more. Because of that, I don't have "Padre Island, Spring Break '93!" inked on my lower back or a Mickey's Big Mouth malt liquor bottle on my hip (and the regret that goes along with either of those options) like some of my college friends do.

Maybe I can't wear the Vans outside today because it has been snowing baseball-sized flakes for the past 3 hours, but you bet your sweet ass I'm wearing them around inside. Like tattoos, the shoes aren't for everyone... but when I saw them online I actually squealed. Less like a pig and more like a school girl, by the way. A school girl who has a 6-pack of Mickey's Big Mouths and 5 snow days ahead of her.

Just kidding about the 6-pack of Mickey's, but back in the day.... ohhhhh, back in the day!

OK, one, since we are both in Chicago we should meet for drinks sometime.

Two, I want your job. Or at least to work at your office. Except, well, I am not at all designy or creative.

Three, I have a tattoo, it is a Sun Devil on my ankle. It will be the only one I ever have. Because it is the only thing I can think of having on my body for the rest of my life. 10 years later, and I still love it.

Four, did you hear how all those girls with the tramp stamp tattoos are in for a shock when they can't get an epidural when giving birth because the ink leads into the bloodstream. That's worse than having a tattoo known as a "tramp stamp."

Five, this is the world's longest comment.

Yay for another five day holiday weekend. As for the Vans..they woudln't make me squeal. Neither like a schoolgirl nor like a pig (I am still LMAO about this): I am not that stylish but then again you are "engaged" to Jeremy Piven. You can easily wear them *lol* No seriously, they are pretty awesome.

I just drooled on my desk. I have a black pair with skulls that I've had for awhile and seeing these makes me want to chuck mine and go buy these. LOVE them!

I have two tattoos. I don't have a tramp stamp though. I might be crazy but I'm not a crazy tramp. Maybe once or twice back in the day but why would I broadcast that?

I've always wanted a tattoo, I just haven't found the nerve to have it done, and if I wore those shoes I would get kicked out of the PTA for sure, I think I'm gonna get a pair ;)

Here's to 5 days off, and a whole helluva lot less snow!

Congrats on the 5-day weekend! Yippee!

The shoes don't make me squeal either, but I'm sure you knew that. A pair with some little flowers and a shining sun are more my type. LOL

I'm so jealous of you love of your job. And those are cool shoes!

ya know...Katie always wanted a TRAMP STAMP (lower back tattoo). Of course she also loves the shoes you displayed. They're her favorite!! Maybe you two have more in common than I'd like to admit. Damnit....where's my shot of Patron??

my brother-in-law turned 47 today and we've been sitting around drinking Patron, red wine and rubbing alcohol (just kidding, although if it was all we had left, we would). I've also been de-virginizing the non- house of jules bloggers. They love your site! I love your site! We all love your site! I love you!

@KJ: 1) Yes, we definitely will have to do that! Please don't forget to bring Jerry Rice with you., 2) You can't have my job but if we get an opening for a non-designy, not creative (says you....but I've seen your Christmas cards and I beg to differ!) person, you'll be the first one I recommend! 3) Ahhh, you can't really go wrong with a tattoo that represents your college. Good thing you didn't get one on spring break like my friends did.... or worse yet, the ones who hired a guy to go to their sorority house (of which I was not a member) and let him get drunk before the inking process began. Dumb.; 4) I only recently heard about that whole epidural thing, and since the only good thing I've heard about the labor process from my friends with kids is the drugs, (besides taking home a baby, of course) I was relieved to not have that to worry about!; and finally...5) This is the world's longest comment response (nah, it's really not!).

@Kat: I understand why you didn't squeal! I know they're not for everybody, but they are for me, and that's why I love them so much. As much, in fact, as Jeremy Piven loves me. Even though he might not know it yet, he really, really does.

@Taj: I knew you would dig these shoes! I was actually looking to buy some Vans for the nephews (ended up getting them other stuff instead) for the holidays but as is often the trouble when I shop for other people, I found these and had to have them for myself. Oliver Peck also designed a pair that has a rose on them in the vintage tattoo style, but for me, the skulls just rocked my brain.

@Melissa: I am willing to be you cash money that if you wore those to the PTA meetings, you'd have a bunch of other parents compliment you on them. People often surprise in these kind of things.

@MelisaMySista: Yeah, I don't know if Vans makes a version with sunshine and flowers.... but anything is possible!

@Anastasia Beaverhausen: You say "Katie always wanted..." like she's 40 years old! Over my dead body (and yours) will she get a tramp stamp. I can already hear your mom saying, "HOW GAUCHE!" As for her having things in common with me, her favorite quasi-aunt, including taste in shoes... these are just a couple of the reasons why she's my favorite 9 year old, you know. We're peeps, bonded like that. I'm currently posing my hand into the Hello Kitty gang sign right now, just for her. Freaky Freaky Freaky Fresh!
As for you de-virginizing everyone currently at your manse for the holidays, I'm so glad I could be their first! We need to make t-shirts that say "De-Virginizer" (for you) and "I don't bite... hard" (for me), which we'll wear proudly underneath our Pink Ladies-style "Red Hot Babes" jackets. Also, could I use any more quotation marks in this response? "I think not".

@Alf, DonMillsDiva & Kris: Thanks! Glad you like!

I wish I could find a law firm that would allow me to work 4 days a week. Something tells me that won't ever happen.

The shoes are very cool even though they aren't my style.

i would love to have my boss/co-workers be just like yours!

I love, love love these shoes. I was hoping Santa would bring me a pair of Vans but he brought me a nose ring instead. And a piercer to go with it.

I intend to be the only extra pierced, tattooed and Van-wearin Mama in my PTA - or in my bible study group. ;)

@Sauntering: You never know! I wouldn't have thought it possible either, but luckily it was an option that worked out very well for me and for my bosses.

@DiPie: Believe me, I know how lucky I am!

@Angela wd: Sounds like you got a pretty good deal there. I haven't gone beyond the ears as far as piercing goes, but if I'm looking to get one, I know who now owns their own piercer! As for being the only pierced, tattooed and van-wearer in your PTA & Bible groups, I say, this is how walls get broken down and real personality comes through. Love it.

OH, and I totally forgot to mention that my dad is so cool that after he read this post he went and bought his own pair of these vans!

So did my taste buds change or did Mickey's change? I used to LOVE those things. A few years ago I in a fit of nostalgia I impulse bought a 6 pack while grocery shopping! OMG Icky! The only thing they *might* be good for now is washing down roofies. {Sigh}
